Samantha Du, Ph.D.
Chief Executive Officer

Samantha joined Hutchison Whampoa in 2001 to lead the global pharmaceutical R&D and health care investment activities in the Group. In 2002, she founded and became the CEO of Hutchison Medipharma Limited (HMPL), a Shanghai based pharmaceutical R&D company focusing on oncology and autoimmune diseases. Dr. Du received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from University of Cincinnati. Prior to Hutchison, she was in Pfizer’s global strategic operation division in charge of global Licensing and related merge & acquisition activities for metabolic diseases. She started her research career at Pfizer’s Global R&D center in Connecticut and led teams that delivered multiple INDs and NDAs in several therapeutic areas.

Weiguo Su, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President, Drug Discovery

Dr. Su joined Hutchison MediPharma in 2005, prior to which he spent fifteen years in Pfizer's US R&D organisation. Dr. Su delivered several high quality new drug candidates during his time with Pfizer with his last role being a director in the Medicinal Chemistry Department. He received his Ph.D. and post-doctoral fellowship in Chemistry from Harvard University under the guidance of Nobel Laureate Professor E. J. Corey and his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Fudan University in Shanghai, China.

Jimmy Wei, Ph.D., M.B.A.
Vice President, Business Development

Dr. Wei has over ten years of experience in the life sciences industry, in the areas of R&D, investment and business development. Dr. Wei is Vice President and head of the business development at Hutchison MediPharma. Previously, Dr. Wei was the Deputy General Manager of Burrill China Group, where he led Burrill’s business activities related to Greater China Area. Burrill is one of the largest life sciences VC fund with close to $1bln under management. Prior to joining Burrill, Dr. Wei worked for WI Harper Group (WIH) and oversaw its global life sciences investment. Before WIH, Dr. Wei was a management consultant at McKinsey Shanghai office. Dr. Wei has also conducted R&D in several leading research organizations, including Duke University Medical Center and Chinese Academia of Sciences. Dr. Wei has obtained a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from North Carolina State University. He also holds an M.B.A. from Darden Business School, University of Virginia.

Xun Zhang, Ph.D.
Vice President, Pharmaceutical Sciences & Project Operations

Dr. Zhang joined Hutchison MediPharma in 2005, prior to which he spent eleven years in Pfizer's US R&D organisation where he was a director in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Division and, before that, four years at the Bristol-Myers- Squibb Research Institute. Dr. Zhang received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin and his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Peking University, China.

Xiaoqiang Yan, Ph.D.
Vice President, Research & Technology

Dr. Yan joined Hutchison MediPharma in 2002, prior to which he spent over ten years in Amgen's US R&D organisation where he was a Molecular and Cell Biologist in haematology, pharmacology, pathology and functional genomics. Dr. Yan received his Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Toronto, Canada and his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Medicine from the West China University of Sciences, China.

Zhenping Wu, Ph.D., M.B.A.
Vice President, Pharmaceutical Sciences

Dr. Wu joined Hutchison MediPharma in 2008 with 17 years of experience in drug discovery and development in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. His past positions include Senior Director of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Phenomix Corporation, a California based drug discovery and development company, Director of Pharmaceutical Development at Pfizer Global Research & Development in San Diego, California (formerly Agouron Pharmaceuticals), and Senior Scientist at Roche Palo Alto site. Dr. Wu led many development project teams and advanced numerous drug candidates into different phases of clinical development and commercialization. The candidates include Sutent, a new blockbuster anti-cancer drug for Pfizer.
Dr. Wu received a Ph. D. degree from Hong Kong University, and an MBA degree from the University of California at Irvine. He is the past Chairman and President of the Board of Sino-American Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Association. He received a Colleague Recognition Award from Pfizer in 2003 for his work on the Sutent project, a Dean's Scholar Award from the University of California at Irvine in the same year, and a Leadership Award from Sino-American Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Association in 2008. Dr. Wu was the recipient of an American Heart Association Fellowship in 1990.

Tom Tang, M.D., M.B.A.
Vice President, Clinical and Regulatory Affairs

Dr. Tang joined Hutchison MediPharma in 2007, prior to which he was a clinical program leader in Pliva Inc. and Pfizer/Pharmacia. Dr. Tang has more than 15 years experience in infectious diseases, immunology, endocrinology, and oncology. He received his Medical Degree from Capital University of Medicine in Beijing, China and his Master's degree in Business Administration from Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey.

Yang Sai, Ph.D.
Executive Director, Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics

Dr. Sai joined Hutchison MediPharma in 2006, prior to which he headed the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics Group at Neurocrine Biosciences where he established in vitro and in vivo pharmacokinetic characterisation and metabolite identification units. Dr. Sai spent his post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard University and the National Cancer Institute, received his Ph.D. in Biopharmacy from King's College, London, and his Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from the Second Military Medical University in Shanghai, China.

Jianguo Ji, Ph.D.
Group Director, Discovery Chemistry

Dr. Ji joined Hutchison MediPharma in 2008 with 11 years of experience in the drug discovery and development areas at Abbott. During his time with Neuroscience in Global Pharmaceutical Research Division (GPRD), Dr. Ji invented three drug development candidates (DDCs) including ABT-894, ABT-107 and ABT-272. While he was in the Process Chemistry Department, Dr. Ji made significant contributions to the process research and development of ABT-546 and ABT-963. Dr. Ji did his postdoctoral research with Professor Mukund P. Sibi at North Dakota State University (NDSU), received his Ph. D. degree under the supervisions of Professor Xiyan Lu from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC) and his Bachelor's degree in chemistry from Nanjing University, China. Dr. Ji has published over 30 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and is an inventor on over 12 issued US patents.
