Dr. Samantha Du, CEO of Hutchison MediPharma (HMPL) was invited to ChinaBio’s first ever partnering forum event. The forum was announced as a success, with 250+ companies in attendance from 29 different countries, establishing the goal of extending China’s reach in the global biotech industry. The event was held with the main purpose to facilitate drug R&D collaboration relationships between emerging biotech front-runners in China and global biopharma companies.

Dr. Du attended the ChinaBio event as a guest speaker for the Keynote Panel: Partnering in China – the New Frontier, other panelists include senior executives from pharmaceutical giants such as Bayer, Pfizer, and Merck. Panel topics covered the current impediments multinational companies need to overcome in response to emerging opportunities in China, techniques and suggestions on how early stage companies and researchers in China can attract the attention of big pharma companies, and differences between Chinese partnerships versus Western partnerships. Dr. Du discussed her view on the status, trends and philosophy on China’s emerging biotech industry. Furthermore, she also discussed HMPL’s growth strategy in regards to how companies are handling investment risks amidst the ongoing global financial crisis.
