Hutchison MediPharma and the Committee of Anti-Cancer Agent Successfully Jointly Hold the First Targeted Anti-Cancer Drug Research and Development Symposium

Shanghai, May 22, 2010: To promote research and development of targeted anti-cancer drugs in China and to enhance the communication and exchange of information amongst academic institutions, hospitals and corporations, Hutchison MediPharma and the Committee of Anti-Cancer Agent of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association successfully held the first Targeted Anti-cancer Drug Research and Development Symposium during the 2010 Chinese Conference on Oncology. The symposium was held on May 22, 2010 at the Shanghai Everbright Convention and Exhibition Center.

Experts and professionals from the Committee of Anti-cancer Agent, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Sun Yat-Sen University, Sichuan University, Zhejiang Cancer Hospital and many other prestigious medical research institutions, together with Hutchison MediPharma and other leading pharmaceutical companies, presented the latest research progress in cancer drug development in China. Speakers at the symposium included ProfessorJian Ding, Director of the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Dr. Yuankai Shi, Professor and Vice President of the Cancer Institute and Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences; and Dr. Weiguo Su, Executive Vice President of Drug Research at Hutchison MediPharma. Over 100 experts, scholars and clinicians participated in the event.
With their increased selectivity, greater efficacy and improved toxicity profiles, targeted anti-cancer drugs have gradually become a hot spot for anti-cancer drug research and development. China is projected to be one of the fastest growing markets globally for targeted cancer therapy.
