May 19, Atlanta, Dr. Samantha Du, CEO of Hutchison MediPharma (HMPL), and CSO of Hutchison China MediTech, was invited as a panel speaker in a super session named “Beyond Business as Usual: Ernst & Young Global Biotechnology Report 2009” at the 2009 Bio International Convention.

This event marks that HMPL as the first Chinese biotech company was invited by a super session in the BIO history, where over 1,500 senior executives from global pharmaceutical or biotech companies participated.

Dr. Du, along with other executives from OSI Pharmaceuticals, Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Genzyme Corporation and Ernst & Young, discussed the biotechnology industry’s financial performance in 2008 and unprecedented challenges as a result of the global financial crisis, explored solutions to deal with funding drought and other uncertainties and believed that innovation (in terms of both technology and business models) is key for global biotech industry.
